Where Should You Store Your Trailer?

Home 5 News 5 Where Should You Store Your Trailer?

If you’re buying a trailer for commercial use, where you choose to store your trailer is going to vary widely based on the property you own, how much parking space it has, and so on. If you’re buying a trailer for personal use, though, you may be wondering: where should I store it?

Below, we’re going to discuss a few of the most common places to store your trailer, as well as the advantages and disadvantages that come with each location. We hope this helps you determine where you want to store the trailer.

Driveway

Many people’s first instinct is to store their trailer on their driveway. This makes sense, given the fact that most driveways have enough space for the trailer. That said, there are a few disadvantages that may not make this the best spot.

The first is aesthetics. Some people don’t like seeing a trailer on the driveway. Even if this isn’t a concern for you, it could be a concern if there’s an HOA in your area that sets standards for how homes should look. The second is that your driveway is going to leave your trailer exposed to the elements.

Despite these disadvantages, the driveway is a convenient place to store your trailer, and it could be a good place depending on your situation.

Garage

Just like a driveway, it makes sense to store your trailer in a garage. It’s a convenient place that likely puts the trailer right next to your vehicle. The biggest concern here is whether there’s enough room for the trailer. Some garages are simply too small, while others may just have too much clutter in them.

That said, given the convenience of this location and the fact that it protects your trailer for the elements, it may be a good fit for you.

Self Storage Unit

If you don’t have enough room for your trailer, you may want to use a storage unit. While you can purchase space in a storage unit and regularly visit it, this is most common for people who aren’t using their trailer throughout the year.

There are a few different situations where this may be the case.  If you’re using your trailer to haul a fishing boat, for instance, you may be able to store that trailer during the summer. It may also be the case that you only use your trailer once every couple of months, so it makes sense to just visit the storage unit when you want to use it.

Regardless of the situation, you’ll want to make sure you’re properly storing the trailer. Depending on the trailer you own, this may require removing batteries, jacking up your trailer to protect the tires, and so on. This prep work ensures that your trailer is ready for you and in good shape when you come back to it.
