Any market has its ups and downs, which means that you may notice variations in price throughout the year. Savvy buyers will know that this means there are certain times of year when it’s more advantageous to go shopping for a trailer.
In this article, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the seasonality of trailer prices: when prices change, when prices don’t, and how you can get a great deal when shopping for your trailer.
Please note that this article is looking at the prices for enclosed, cargo, utility, and other kinds of work trailers. It is not taking RV prices into account.
Does It Matter What Time of Day I Buy a Trailer? What About Time of Week?
Generally speaking, there aren’t any noticeable differences between buying trailers at a certain time of day or week. You shouldn’t expect the same kind of aggressive negotiations you would see at a car dealership. Trailer prices are significantly more stable than car prices.
For this reason, we’re going to look at broader trends that cover the span of months, as opposed to days or hours.
What Time of Year Should I Buy a Trailer?
If you’re looking to get the best price on your trailer, you’re going to want to go during a time of year when most people aren’t looking for a trailer.
This could be anytime from October through January, with December and January being particularly good months. People aren’t generally making purchases during the holidays, which is why this is the best time of year.
This timeframe doesn’t apply for snow trailers, which people are obviously going to want during the winter months. That said, we here in Arkansas don’t have to worry about snow trailer prices.
What If I Want to Buy a Trailer Online?
While prices vary more online, October through January is still likely going to be the best time for you to get a good deal. That said, if you’re thinking about buying a trailer on Craigslist, we recommend performing due diligence: there are many scams on that site, which shows why it’s so difficult to replace the in-person experience that a dealership offers.
Is There Anything Else I Should Consider Before Buying a Trailer?
At the end of the day, the best time for you to buy a trailer is when you need it. There are advantages to buying it when it’s slightly lower, given the fact that -- unlike most vehicles -- trailers don’t depreciate in price over time.
