Cargo Enclosed Trailer FAQ

Home 5 News 5 Cargo Enclosed Trailer FAQ

When moving things from one place to another, cargo-enclosed trailers are an excellent option. From transporting equipment for the job to hauling your valuable sports car and ATVs, these trailers are a quick and safe method of transportation. A significant benefit more extended using an enclosed trailer is the protection it offers from inclement weather while transporting materials. These trailers can be outfitted with tracks, rings, tie-downs, shelving, or flooring to accommodate almost any type of cargo.

Here are some of the frequently asked questions about cargo enclosed trailers:

#Q1 What should be the ideal length when buying an enclosed trailer?

Enclosed trailers come in a tremendous variety of lengths, weights, and designs. The most common trailer length is between 8-32 feet. As far as width is concerned, it is between five, six, seven, and eight and a half feet. It adds some additional space that can range from several inches to a few feet. If it is a V-nose trailer, you may need to add extra height to the standard trailer sizes to accommodate oversized cargo.

#Q2 What should be the payload capacity?

The enclosed trailer weight, along with the cargo weight, is called the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR or just GVW). If the trailer has a GVWR of 3500, this means you can load up 2,300 lbs of cargo. GVWR includes all the vehicle’s components, fuel, passengers, and any cargo within the car. Before buying the trailer, you must also be aware of the GAWR, or Gross Axle Weight Rating, which represents the maximum axle capacity of the trailer.

#Q3 How many axles does the enclosed trailer need?

For hauling smaller loads, up to about 2,500 pounds, a single axle trailer is enough. If you are planning to carry heavier loads, consider a dual or multiple axle enclosed trailer. Shorter dual axles will very often have a greater payload capacity than a longer single axle trailer. The axles play a crucial role in dispersing the weight of the cargo and for easy maneuverability. Longer trailers can sometimes be equipped with multiple axles.

#Q4 Steel vs. aluminum

Both steel and aluminum are the most used materials to make trailers. Although steel trailers cost less, they are a lot heavier and can become victims of oxidation. If you are using your trailer on rough and uneven terrain, steel could be a better investment in the long term. At the same time, if you want to use a camper on roads covered by snow or during rain conditions, aluminum sounds like a no-brainer.

#Q5 What are the uses of enclosed cargo trailers?

Enclosed cargo trailers can be used to transport all kinds of stuff. Here are some of its common uses:

Equipment carrier – An enclosed trailer helps electricians and plumbers safely put their equipment in inclement weather.

Landscaping -- Professional landscapers can haul and store everything from rakes and leaf blowers to mowers and wheelbarrows.

Food selling – Food trucks help an owner to take their business wherever they want. You can also use them to sell pizza, coffee, portable grill, and pastries.

Mobile office – If you are a tech worker, a blogger, or a person working from home. You can take your office anywhere.

Camping – A small cargo trailer is the best option for camping. You can use the trailer to transport your tent, supplies, and gear. You can even convert them into tiny homes for all your outdoor needs, including a living space.
